On a lovely sunny morning at Upritchard Park, and coming off the back of an impressive victory against Donaghadee, the Bangor side were intent on recording another win. However Lurgan proved to be a far stiffer opposition. Lurgan started well, scoring within the first 5 minutes and putting Bangor on the back foot. Bangor found it hard to cope with the Lurgan strong pack and big ball carriers. The visitors continued to apply all the pressure and scored a couple more tries before the end of the first half. The second half started more promisingly for the home side. After a good scrum Tyler Mahaffy broke free and scored under the posts which was converted by Frankie Shivers. However, Lurgan hit back with a couple more tries before the match finished with the final score 7-39.
Although the boys were very disappointed at the loss, they played exceptionally well against a much bigger and stronger team. Sam Lennon had a great game at no 8 and Jake Burns was Bangor's man of the match, putting in an exceptional shift in the centre.
The boys have a training match on Wednesday evening against Malone, with a kick-off at 7:15pm. All club members, friends and family are encouraged to come along and give the future players of the club your support. Also Bangor are always looking to recruit new players to their youth section. Training is on a Wednesday evening between 7 and 8pm. No previous experience is required, just come and enjoy the fun.
