On a beautiful Autumnal morning, which made perfect rugby playing conditions, Bangor made the short trip away to face Cooke, in what was felt could be a fiercely contested match.
Unfortunately due to illness and a number of injuries, some of the Bangor players were unavailable. However undeterred the Bangor boys took to the field with a positive can do attitude and a determination to play well.
From the outset Bangor showed some dominance with good positive, physical attacking play and this was justly rewarded with a number of really strong tries, finishing with a convincing 15-50 win.
The forwards were vastly improved on last week, and were keen to stamp their mark on the game. They played with some strong ball carrying and made some excellent carries which resulted in good line breaks.
Bangor also had a new half back pairing and back line for the game, which proved too hot to handle for Cooke. The speed and distribution of the ball was excellent at times, as was the attacking and defending display of the Bangor back line.
This was extremely encouraging, given a number of players were playing out of their normal position.
In what was an extremely difficult decision, the coaches had to decide on a man of the match. Truth be known, there were many nominees. It was whittled down to the forwards, and Josh Newell was nominated as man of the match. Josh’s work in defence and ball carrying were excellent.
This was a strong team performance from the young Bangor men. Well done!
Thank you to all supporters who travelled to Cooke.
