This week Bangor faced a well matched Ophir side at Upritchard Park. Disappointed from their defeat the previous week to Lurgan, the Bangor Boys were keen to make amends, and this they certainly did despite the wet, tricky conditions.
The game started with Bangor receiving the kick off, and from the offset they had upped their game from the previous week, and looked impressive in attack, with the physical prowess of the forwards and the attacking capability of the backs immediately evident.
Bangor received their just rewards for this, and scored their first try from an impressive attack.
Ophir provided a response, and they tried to out muscle Bangor up from with their heavier forwards.
The inter play between Bangor’s backs and forwards was excellent, as was the eagerness of the Bangor players to get the ball through the hands, despite the fact it was like a bar of soap!
Some poor defending and high tackling from Bangor opened the door for Ophir, and they did manage to run in some good tries.
However despite this, Bangor played some fantastic attacking rugby, and defended exceptionally well at times, putting pressure on their opponents, which forced them into errors. This created a number of opportunities for this young Bangor team, which they took well.
A great team performance, and now onwards to Cooke away next week, which will provide a stern test to this young and always improving Bangor side.
A special mention to Mason Williams, who was the coaches man of the match, for his excellent defensive effort, with some outstanding tackles!
Try scorers - Sam Lennon x2, Tyler Mahaffey and Jake Burns.
