I am running the Amsterdam marathon in under 3 weeks time and have decided that it is a perfect opportunity to try and raise a bit of cash for the IRFU Charitable Trust.
The IRFU Charitable Trust supports seriously injured rugby players who have suffered severe spinal injury leaving them paralysed and in need of round the clock care.
Rugby has given me, my family and my mates so much over the years, yet there are people who due to the nature of the sport have got seriously injured and the Trust support and help those with bad injuries in rehabilitation, nursing costs, home alterations and much more. With my son starting his rugby career with his school this year I hope he gets out of it as much as I did, but if the worst was to happen I know the support of the trust would be invaluable.
I am heading to Amsterdam with 5 other ex Bangor rugby players (Douglas Gordon, Steve Addy, Paddy Dornan, Neil Andrews & Alan Skelly, along with non ruggers Graeme Taylor & Mike Ferguson) and have put more work in for this than I ever did for anything in my life!
I've done my bit (and those long 20 milers are grim believe me) if you want to donate and help others then I would very much appreciate it!
