Our own Ashley Armstrong was a great friend of the late Gerry O'Donnell from Ballina RFC. The two of them traveled the world with the Perennials RFC and were part of 20 tours filled with fun and friendship.

Now Ballina and Bangor have come together to announce an annual fixture between the sides which will be played for a cup named after two great friends - the O'Donnell Armstrong Cup. The fixture will honour two legendary men who came together through the friendship and respect of sport.

The inaugural game took place on Saturday 17th August at Ballina RFC with Bangor coming out on top with a convincing 7-56 win. Congratulations to the players who can not only look forward to hosting Ballina at Upritchard Park in the return fixture next year, but also approach their opening Junior Cup tie against Portadown with renewed confidence on the 24th August.
