Our two sporting sections go head to head on the cricket square

While it may have rained on several parades earlier today, the sun was shining at Upritchard Park as the annual challenge between cricket and rugby took place between two 'select' teams of players. Probably best to leave it as saying the cricketers were wearing whites...

Having finished as runners up for the past two years, the cricketers were certainly going to go easy on the rugby boys, especially as they now knew what damage Mike Ferguson could do with the bat. Unfortunately Mike's early success with the bat wasn't matched by the rest of the rugby players. Nonetheless, they managed to rack up a realistic target for cricket to chase.

The rugby bowling left much to be desired, with several wides (both vertical and horizontal) making the cricketers not only stretch but also duck. As the cricketers picked off the erratic rugby players' bowling, they eventually overtook their earlier score to stop the rot in this series of matches.

Thanks to all those who organised this entertaining match.
