Goodbye Jack!

Goodbye Jack!

Roger Corbett18 Apr - 18:25

Jack Andreassen sadly departs our shores in May to head back to his native Townsville in order to complete his teaching degree.

1st XV captain James Leary shares his, and the club's, thoughts on Jack's departure.

"Jack arrived In Bangor in February 2023 and unfortunately, due to registration reasons, he could not play for the 1st XV in the All Ireland League. However, he would not let this deter him and for the remainder of the season played across the senior section by representing the 2nd, 3rd and 4th XVs.

In his first full season with Bangor, another registration hiccup did not put a stop to Jack’s determination and love of the club, where he captained the 2nd XV for the 2023/24 season. His captaincy at such a young age showed the respect and high regard he was held in by all of the club. Leading from the front as always.

In this 2024/25 season Jack was finally eligible for the 1st XV where he played the full year. Jack is a super player and performed well in every game he played. He was ever reliable and a staple of the forward pack. One of the first names on the team sheet and someone I knew would always give his best.

Outside of playing, Jack has also been involved with coaching the Under 14s age group since 2023 and has been key in the rugby development of these future stars.

Jack is a firm favourite among the playing group, supporters and the wider club, cementing himself as a stalwart and a true clubman. He has also been an ever present member at club socials and helped us prop up the bar. He has made friendships for life and we hope to have him back at a newly refurbished Upritchard Park.

On behalf of myself, the players and the committee I would like to thank Jack for his service and friendship."
