This week is Parents in Sport week, an initiative by Sport Ireland and Sport Northern Ireland (through the Child Protection in Sport Unit)

This is a great opportunity to highlight to parents the important role they play in supporting their child’s rugby journey, no matter what team they play on.

This weekend we are hosting the Aviva Mini Rugby event at Upritchard Park and expect to have not only over 400 kids taking part but, with them, their parents and family on the touchline.

On an occasion like this, and indeed with more routine games and training events throughout the season, it is perhaps fitting that we highlight this initiative where parents can find some information both about safeguarding their children and letting them enjoy playing rugby.

Take a minute or two to check out the IRFU website, https://www.irishrugby.ie/playing-the-game/spirit-of-rugby/safeguarding/parents-guardians/. This page also contains the IRFU Play Your Part, Let Them Play video that reminds parents that the youth game belongs to our Age-grade players, and that it’s OK to make mistakes – that’s how they learn.
