On Saturday the under 16s had their second match against a Medallion development squad from Campbell College at Upritchard Park. Despite the damp conditions the pitch was in great order.
From the kick off it was apparent that this was going to be a challenging match with Campbell taking the initiative and playing fast open rugby which lead to a try being scored after 5 minutes which was converted 7 - 0. From the restart Campbell set up a number of phases with good linking between their forwards and backs which lead to a second try which was unconverted 12 - 0.
The next period of play saw a rejuvenated Bangor side contest with some good individual and team skills which eventually lead to a try, well finished by James Hughes and converted by Kailen Cantley 12 - 7. The match was more evenly contested from this point and just before half time Campbell made a break through and scored in the corner which was not converted 17 - 7.
The second half commenced as the first half ended with both teams contesting for possession with Campbell scoring a well worked try which was converted 24 - 7. Bangor responded with vigour and after several phases Dawson Miskelly powered over the line for a well deserved try which was converted by Kailen Cantley 24 - 14.
Campbell responded with some good rugby as Bangor appeared to tire and two more tries were scored by Campbell with one conversion with the match ending with a final score 36 - 14 to Campbell.
Both groups of players must be congratulated and are a credit to both school and club and it is hoped to maintain this relationship to assist the players in developing their skills.
Next week is our first league match against Carrickfergus and training on Wednesday will be from 19.00 - 20.30.
