Bangor 2nds travelled to Gibson Park to face Grosvenor in the quarter-final of the Crawford Plate competition. In a closely fought encounter, it was Bangor who got the only points in the first half after a powerful drive from close range by Charlie Sargaison. The windy conditions made kicking tricky, resulting in the conversion attempt being pushed wide, and giving Bangor a slender 0-5 lead at half time.
The second half picked up where the first had left off, with both sides evenly matched and few scoring opportunities arising as a result. However, it was Grosvenor who eventually got on the scoreboard with a try after a period of sustained pressure. With the addition of the successful conversion, Grosvenor had just got ahead by 7-5. As the clock ticked down, Bangor were unable to add to their score, giving the home side a narrow and hard-fought win.
With all three senior teams playing away from home, there were quite a few uncommon faces in the 2nds and 3rds teams, so credit is due to all who pulled on a shirt and played their part in making these fixtures meaningful and entertaining to watch.
