On a perfect evening at Upritchard Park, Bangor 3rds hosted Holwood in a league fixture. It was unfortunate for the visitors to come up against a side comprising several 'mature' players who, although not having played much in recent times, still possessed the skills that had served the club so well all those years ago. However, there were also some players just starting their senior rugby journey, and who will hopefully play their part for many years to come.
Within the opening minutes, Bangor looked to be firing on all cylinders. Davy Charles showed he hasn't lost any of his pace as he ran in two superb solo tries. As the game progressed, Mike Aspley, Oliver Ward, Illy Raderua, Corey Alexander and Jamie Mendez all crossed the line for their tries, as well as adding a penalty try. James Montgomery was on kicking duties, and he successfully converted five of these tries.
It was a great team performance from Bangor that gave Holywood little chance to reply. Hopefully this is the start of more good times for the 3rds after the difficulties they suffered last season.
