Thankfully the persistent rain that had been falling earlier in the week had stopped and although it was very cold, playing conditions were good. Bangor’s team was a mixture of youth and maturity, with U18 players stepping up to the senior ranks, and some really senior players deciding they hadn’t completely retired yet.
However, the blend of old and new certainly seemed to work, as Bangor got the scoreboard moving after just 4 minutes of play, and maintained their superiority throughout the first half to take a healthy 43-7 lead by half time, and with their try-scoring bonus point already in the bag.
Ophir looked like they might get back into the game with a quick try after the restart, but they were unable to sustain this pressure as Bangor simply cancelled this out with another try of their own. In the end, the second half was a more even affair, but Bangor never looked like giving up their lead, finally finishing with a convincing and deserved 53-17 win.
