It was ideal conditions for the return match against Donaghadee on Saturday at Upritchard Park. Things did not go well prior to kick off with three players crying off leaving Bangor to field a team of 14 players. Despite this the 14 young men defended well for the first 10 mins of the game keeping Dee from crossing the line on a number of occasions. The pressure told with a penalty awarded to Donaghadee 15 meters out and directly in front of the posts. The match was halted briefly to deal with a suspected head injury to Patrick McGratten who for safety had to leave the field reducing Bangor numbers to 13 players.
The match restarted with the penalty were Dee took a tap and go and drove over the line to score which was converted. It did not take Dee too long to take advantage of their superior numbers and with good ball retention, continuity and tying our players in created numerous overlaps to score a further five tries to take the score to Bangor 0 Donaghadee 42 as the half time whistle went.
In compliance with the laws the match was conceded by Bangor but it was agreed the remaining 30 minutes would be played as a friendly and our thanks to Donaghadee who lent us two players to even up the sides.
It is difficult to play one man down never mind two but all credit to the boys they did not give up and played to the final whistle again with some good individual performances.
Our best wishes and speedy recovery to Patrick McGratten, Ethan McGrogan and Josh Hunter who sustained injuries during the match.
