
It was a bright sunny day with a bit of a cross wind, conditions ideal for playing rugby. Bangor kicked off with Malone securing the ball for a number of phases, good pressure from Bangor forced Malone to spill the ball close to the Bangor 10 m line which Kailen Cantley picked up evaded a number of tackles to score to the left of the posts and then successfully converted. Malone 0 Bangor 7.
From the restart possession alternated between the 2 teams with some good displays of attack and defence by both teams. With Malone working their way into the Bangor 22. Good defence and a jackal tackle (not sure by whom) resulted in a penalty being awarded to Bangor. From the kick, good pressure from Tyler Jamison and Ben McAuley forced the Malone 10 fail to catch the ball which Ben recovered, evaded the tackle to score out wide. The try went unconverted Malone 0 Bangor 12.
Another period of alternating possession occurred with Bangor working their way into the Malone 22 were they earned a scrum. From the scrum Tyler Mahaffey picked up and drove over the line to score wide right of the posts which went unconverted. Malone 0 Bangor 17.
From the kick off and with just a few minutes left in the half a more determined Malone forced Bangor on the defensive and drove them back to their goal line. Despite some good defence, sustained pressure from Malone resulted in a try which was unconverted. Malone 5 Bangor 17.
The second half saw Malone retain possession for several phases and work their way down to Bangor’s 5 m line were an infringement by Bangor resulted in a penalty being awarded. A quick tap and one of the Malone pack drove over to score which was converted. Malone 12 Bangor 17.
The next 15 minutes of play were evenly contested until Bangor worked their way to the Malone 5 m line. Pressure from Bangor resulted in a number of penalties been awarded and eventually, despite the white line fever, Klaidas Benevius forced his way over the line to score which was converted. Final Score Malone 12 Bangor 24.
Overall a good performance by the squad win or lose there is always something to work on. The younger members of the squad should be congratulated for their performance and the added depth they bring.
