Bangor’s dogged performance is enough to defeat Lisburn in the final regular league game of the campaign

In what was at times a frustrating match to watch, Bangor did enough to defeat their hosts by two clear tries.

The young men of Bangor took to the pitch, with a significant number of players unavailable. The game started with Bangor taking the kick off. Unfortunately this was so well struck the ball ran dead, giving Lisburn a scrum on the half way line. It was to be small errors like this that hampered the young men, whilst they tried to build momentum.

When Bangor did seem to be getting into their stride, Lisburn were unfortunate to pick up injuries, which resulted in a significant amount of stops and starts. Players had to be taken off, to ensure both teams were equally matched. This contributed to preventing Bangor from finding their true form.

The Bangor forwards were lively, and hungry for the ball. Perhaps too much so, as there were a number of occasions when the ball should have been ran through the backs, to utilise the speedy men out wide.

During the second half, Bangor crossed the Lisburn try line no fewer than three consecutive occasions. Each time the ball was held up by a determined and resilient defence. The Bangor forwards may have suffered a bout of white line fever, as they did not want to give the ball up to our backs. That being said, it was great to see the enthusiasm and positive aggression shown by many of the forwards, who were picking and rucking like it was going out of fashion!

Lisburn clearly were not going to give up this game without a fight, and they gave as good as they got. There was some excellent defensive work by everyone within the Bangor team. It was this defensive effort which ensured we only conceded one try throughout the whole game.

The final score was Lisburn 5 - Bangor 15.

There was one young man who stood out, in terms of his strong carries and work at the rucks. Man of the Match was awarded to Scott Marshall. His ball carrying in attack was impressive, as was his counter rucking. Well done!

I think all would agree, in what has been the boys inaugural league campaign, it has been extremely positive to date. Long may this continue!

Thank you to all those supporters who travelled to watch the team.

Training is on as usual on Wednesday 20th February at 7pm.
